After six months as a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, Florida, the PhD Student Maria Gragnaniello has successfully completed her international research period under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stephen E. Saddow.

The research stay represented an important opportunity to strengthen the internationalization of the PhD program while fostering scientific collaboration between the University of Naples Federico II and the University of South Florida.

During her visit, Maria conducted research in the field of Edge Artificial Intelligence for biomedical applications, with a particular focus on the design and deployment of lightweight deep learning algorithms for resource-constrained embedded systems. Her activities included the development and optimization of AI models for wearable and point-of-care medical devices.

The research experience also enabled the establishment of new scientific collaborations and contributed to ongoing joint research initiatives, laying the groundwork for future publications and long-term cooperation between the two institutions.

Following her return to Italy, Maria will continue her PhD research at the University of Naples Federico II, building upon the expertise acquired during her stay at USF and further developing the international collaborations initiated throughout this experience.
